If you are considering getting your home’s exterior cleaned, you have more than likely heard of power washing but, you may have never heard of soft washing. One thing is for sure, the two are very different and using the wrong one could cause more harm than good. So, what is soft washing? And is it the right solution for you?

Soft washing is a low-pressure cleaning method that uses cleaning solutions to do the hard work of breaking down dirt, grime, mold and algae. This method is the ideal solution for washing surfaces like vinyl siding, asphalt roofs, painted wood, stucco, and more. Not only is soft washing a safer method for the surfaces being cleaned, it also provides longer lasting results. Most cleaners used for soft washing will help keep organic growths like mold, algae, and moss from growing back as quickly on the cleaned surfaces.

On the other hand, power washing is a method that uses high pressure to break through dirt and grime. This method is best used on surfaces like concrete, brick, pavers, and stone due to their durability. And, while you can use cleaning solutions, a lot of applications for power washing do not require the use of chemical cleaners. Power washing works great for removing tough stains, gum, grease, and it is the go-to method for cleaning concrete sidewalks, porches, patios, driveways, etc.

So, let’s lay out the main differences between the two:

Pressure Level:

Soft washing uses low pressure while power washing uses high pressure.

Cleaning Solutions:

Soft washing relies on chemicals and detergents to break down soiling while power washing relies on water force.

Surface Compatibility:

Soft washing is for more delicate surfaces that cannot withstand strong pressure while power washing works best on tough, durable surfaces.

Results:

Soft washing kills organic growths like mold and algae while power washing just removes surface dirt.

So why does this all matter? Well, using the wrong method can lead to unnecessary damage to property or working harder, not smarter. Our trained team here at JTK knows the appropriate method to use for every surface we might come across on a job.
